How old were you when your family adopted?  How old was your sibling?  I was 11.  The baby was one and a half.

 

What were some good things that your parents did to help you adjust before and after the adoption?

We talked about the adoption a lot before and after so that I would understand what it meant to be an adoptive sibling.

What are some things you wish your parents had done differently?

 

I wish they had explained that the baby might not like me.  That was sad.

What was your initial reaction when you learned you were going to get a new sibling?   I was so excited.

How long did it take for your sibling to adjust to your family?  How long did it take for things to feel “normal” again?

 

About a year.

 

Has there ever been a time when you wished your family had not adopted (even briefly)?

Sort of.  When he was mad at me, that was hard.

How is your relationship with your sibling today?

Good.  He is sad because I'm going to go to college soon.
